My first letter to a senator…

It’s not the most eloquent or moving, but it’s mine:

Senator Warner,

Please vote against the Personhood Bill.

I am appalled that women’s rights over their own reproductive systems are being so blatantly questioned and infringed on. While I agree that abortion should not be taken lightly, it should also not be outlawed. As a friend to rape victims and as a potential victim myself, it breaks my heart that this even passed as a bill.

Please help keep Virginia as free from discrimination as possible, and you will forever have my vote.

Thank you.

Virginian women, it’s too late for Oklahoma, but it’s not too late for us! Contact your senator(s), dammit! While we still have the right to do so!

Note: While I’m an advocate for smart sex (i.e., using birth control and/or condoms and/or just knowing wtf you’re doing without getting pregnant), accidents do happen. Condoms leak or slip, birth control pills backfire, and then there’s that pesky immaculate conception…

But the bottom line is, this is ridiculous.

We’re living in an allegedly progressive society that supposedly offers so much freedom of choice(s) to its citizens, regardless of gender. If this bill passes into law (as it already has in Okie), then what’s next? Where is the line drawn?

Don’t let the government dictate your body!
